UNC Volleyball and Football Update August 13

At the August 13 meeting, Mark Larson introduced UNC's volleyball and football coaches. Volleyball coach Lyndsey Oates, entering her 24th season, led the team through preseason preparations and into their opener against Wyoming on August 21, followed by a match against UC Davis on August 29. The team is focused on defending its Big Sky championship, returning nine experienced players and welcoming nine newcomers, including six freshmen and three transfers. They also gained valuable experience during a recent trip to Japan, where they played four matches. Thanks to the new NCAA rule granting athletes a fifth year of eligibility, the team's roster now stands at 18. View the full volleyball schedule here.

On the football side, Coach Ed Lamb is optimistic about a breakthrough season as he enters his 4th season. He emphasized the strength and size of the offensive line and noted that maintaining quarterback Kenny Loth’s health and maximizing his passing ability are crucial to the team’s success. The Bears now have the heaviest roster in the conference, reflecting their focus on building physicality. Coach Lamb has prioritized recruiting locally, mentioning how Colorado is an underrecruited state with significant talent. His philosophy is to make the team big and strong first, and then be good at football. This year, UNC will host six home games, five of which will be played under the new stadium lights, beginning with their first home game on August 28. View the full football schedule here.

Service Above Self Award Recipient

Congratulations to Adam Geisick from the Greeley Fire Department on receiving the distinguished Service Above Self Award. This prestigious honor highlights Adam’s outstanding dedication to professional service, continuous growth and exemplary leadership. Adam began his journey as a volunteer firefighter in 2014 and became an official member of the Greeley Fire Department in 2023. Beyond his daily responsibilities, he manages the fire hose program, consisting of meticulously tracking and testing equipment each year, and actively supports the Fill the Boots initiative, exemplifying his commitment to going above and beyond. Adam’s problem-solving mindset, leadership and unwavering work ethic truly embody the spirit of this award. Congratulations, Adam, on this well-deserved recognition!
