At our March 27th meeting, we got an update on the College of Osteopathic Medicine at UNC from college Dean Beth Longenecker. She started by discussing the current physician shortage and how the coming UNC program will help to meet the need for new doctors.  When the program opens, it will be the only one at a public school in the state of Colorado. With around $200 million in funding, the program will have an estimated economic impact of almost $44 million in Colorado, and over $20 million in Weld County alone.
She then discussed the timeline for the program:
  • The program is currently in pre-accreditation status.
  • The site of the old UNC “Lab” School has been cleared and construction for the new building has begun.
  • The new building is targeted for completion and a Certificate of Occupancy by June of 2026.
  • The first class of students for the program is scheduled for Fall 2026.
  • Students will complete four years of medical school, plus a residency of 3 to 7 years.
  • Final accreditation will be received before the first students graduate.

1) Pilot Meeting Schedule is here!  Centennial's Thursday Lunch Bunch is trying a new meeting schedule for the fourth quarter of the Rotary year (April - June). Lunch meetings will take place on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month and Satellite meetings will continue on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 5 PM. The pilot schedule will facilitate a reduction in dues for Thursday members, during the trial period. There will also be one or more social events between April and June. Watch for more information in the newsletter.

2) Save the Date! The Greeley Centennial Golf Tournament at Highland Golf Course is scheduled for May 9th.

3) March Student of the Month - Our Student of the Month for March is Kalid, a senior at Frontier Academy.  Not only did Kalid bring his parents with him to our meeting, but his mother introduced him because she is an advisor at Frontier. Kalid is the president of the Interact Club and is a RYLA alum. He credits RYLA for solidifying his leadership journey. Kalid plans to attend Western Colorado University and plans to study Biology.

4) Centennial Rotarians at PETS - Some of your fellow Centennial Rotarians were very busy from March 21-23, as they attended High Country PETS (President Elect Training Seminar). Attending were the Club Co-presidents Scott Gattis and Karoline Woodruff and Satellite Co-presidents Jessica Hernandez and Maureen Walker, all getting ready for the Rotary year ahead. Chris Woodruff attended as the Chair of the High Country PETS committee. Pictures include moments with the Rotary International President Elect Mario Martins de Camargo and District Governor-elect Karen Morgan.
