There are so many times that I am reminded of the wonderful things our club does, but no better than when I hear an update from our World Community Service Committee. This week we got a great update from Matt Thompson. Matt joined Centennial Rotary in 2016, later moving to the Satellite group to better fit his busy schedule at District 6. From the beginning, Matt found his Rotary passion in service to our community and the world. He has led the World Community Service Committee for many years.

In the past, the committee has overseen these projects:
  • Vocational training in Mozambique
  • Clean stoves in Guatemala
  •  Multiple additions to a school in Honduras
  • Veterinary assistant training in Haiti
  • Multiple projects at La Puente, Alamosa and PLC in Greeley
  • Replaced school windows in Ukraine
Current projects:
  • High school renovations in Honduras
  •  Academic support for students at Divine Mercy School in Uganda
  • Clean water for schools in Ukraine
The WCS committee has become adept at multiplying the service funds raised by the club, receiving almost $118,000 in District Grants over the last 10 years. But the committee isn't resting on their laurels. Several members have been trained on clean water equipment through H2OpenDoors and they are preparing to participate in a global grant in the near future.
We can be so proud of the work they have done and the benefits they have provided for so many.

1 - Sad News
We were very happy to have Wayne Hoover back with us at our last meeting, but then we learned that Wayne had been serving as caregiver for his wife, Carol, for the last several months. Carol lost her fight in October, so Wayne is learning to navigate life without her. We hope his Rotary family can help. Please express some Rotary love when you next see Wayne.

3. Student of the Month for October
Tim Warde introduced another awesome Student of the Month, this time from University High School. Holiday goes above and beyond in everything she does. She serves as peer leader in Sources of Strength Club to promote resilience. She is hosting a drop-in cycling class to raise funds for a suicide prevention program as part of her senior project. completing an internship with the Johnstown Historical Museum. active in local youth community theater and will appear in Sweeney Todd soon. She not only performs but helps with costuming.
She is academically exceptional and will graduate in May with both her HS diploma and her associates degree. Holiday expressed her gratitude at receiving the recognition.

3- The Satellite Rotary Christmas Party will be at 477 on Wednesday, 12/17 at 5:00 p.m.
Smoking Bro’s will be preparing the main dishes and sides, and a handful of Rotarians are bringing desserts.
